Anna Christine Events: Christy Subler
This month we are featuring Christy Subler of Anna Christine Events, an event and wedding planner based out of our Downtown Orlando location. Christy talks about making the switch from the corporate world to being her own boss, some of her favorite events she’s planned, and how she manages to keep a level head even during hectic times.
Tell us about your company. What services do you provide?
Anna Christine Events is an event planning and design company that I started in 2008. We specialize in weddings, social engagements and corporate events.
What made you decide to start your own business?
I was laid-off from a corporate planning job that I loved and decided to go into business on my own!
What do you like best about running your own business?
I love being able to help people and I love the creative process. I love coming up with an original idea, then seeing it come to life.
What originally drew you to event planning?
I can’t remember what drew me to event planning, but I can tell you what’s kept me in it! I love all the moving parts, the problem solving and all the talent that comes together to create a successful event. And I really love the sense of completion I get from creating an event from scratch and seeing the finished product the day of the event. Starting with an idea and watching it turn into reality is truly special.
What is your greatest challenge in running your own business?
There just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done sometimes.
Event planning seems pretty hectic. How do you manage to keep a level head during the hectic times?
It does get busy, but my clients (and often other vendors) look to me to keep things together, so I always remember that I have remain calm no matter what. Plus getting flustered doesn’t help any situation!
How do you enjoy spending your free time?
Spend time with my husband and my family, go to the beach and travel.
What was the most memorable event you’ve ever planned, good or bad?
I’ve been fortunate to have a lot of great events, so it’s hard to pick just one! I designed an Alice In Wonderland themed wedding for a client a couple years ago with a ton of little details in the decor, like pocket watches, antique keys, clocks and tea cups. It came together so beautifully. And we ended the night with a confetti drop during the last dance! It was a really great event!
How do you manage to maintain a balance between work and free time?
That’s something I’m working on!
What advice do you have for anyone that’s interested in getting into event planning?
It’s a lot of work, but it can also be a lot fun. If you have patience, are able to think on your feet, and love make peoples’ dreams and visions come true, event planning may be for you!
What quote or saying do you live by?
“I love it when a plan comes together.”
